Common terms and definitions used in Appgrowing and digital advertising.
Ad & Creative Terms
Ad Creative - A complete advertisement including visuals, copy, voiceover, and music. Also called a "creative" or "ad variant."
Ad Library - Appgrowing's database of millions of global ad creatives that you can search, analyze, and learn from.
Ad Spend - The total budget allocated to running an advertisement. Appgrowing provides estimates based on available signals.
BGM - Background Music. The music track used in a video advertisement.
Call-to-Action (CTA) - The instruction given to viewers about what action to take (e.g., "Download Now", "Learn More", "Sign Up").
Creative DNA - The core elements that make up an ad: visuals, script, voiceover, BGM, and performance metrics.
Creative Type - The format of an advertisement:
- Video - Moving images with sound
- Image - Static visual
- Carousel - Multiple images or videos in sequence
- Playable - Interactive ad that users can interact with
- Landing Page - Web page designed to receive ad traffic
- Website - Full website screenshot or preview
Hook - The first 3 seconds of an ad that captures attention. Critical for video ads.
Impression - One view of an advertisement by a user.
Voiceover - The spoken narration in an advertisement.
Analysis Terms
Benchmark - A custom tracking setup that monitors competitor activity and market trends over time.
Comparison Deck - A side-by-side analysis of multiple competitors' ad strategies.
Engagement Rate - The percentage of people who see an ad and interact with it (click, like, comment, share).
Performance Metrics - Data about how an ad is performing, including impressions, engagement rate, and estimated reach.
Plot Device - The narrative structure used in an ad:
- Conflict - Presenting a problem or challenge
- Growth - Showing progression or improvement
- Transformation - Showing before-and-after change
- Curiosity - Building intrigue or mystery
- Testimonial - Using customer reviews or endorsements

Target Audience - The specific group of people an ad is designed to reach.
Targeting - The process of selecting who sees an advertisement based on various criteria.

Performance Terms
Active Days - The number of days an advertisement has been running.
Conversion Rate - The percentage of people who see an ad and complete a desired action (purchase, sign-up, download).
